Biography
Since its formation in 1999, Guerrilla Funk Monster has blended multiple musical genres, resulting in a distinctive sound paired with an engaging stage performance. The band originated in Calgary, Alberta, where it initially played venues in the local bar scene prior to expanding its reach. Influences ranging from Pink Floyd and Fela Kuti through to Tom Waits and Jimi Hendrix have been acknowledged by the group. Guerrilla Funk Monster put out its first album, Triptophonic, in 2002 after gaining exposure through morning television programs and the Western Canadian university tour circuit. To promote this initial record, the ensemble embarked on a nationwide tour of Canada.
