Biography
Born Gabriel Perrodin on 17 August 1937 in Bellvue, Louisiana, USA, the future guitarist picked up the instrument during his teenage years and absorbed the ringing, melodic approach of Guitar Slim. In 1956/7 he cut sides for Jay Miller alongside his group the Musical Kings; several successful singles subsequently appeared on Excello Records. The resulting tracks sat squarely in the south Louisiana R&B tradition yet carried an added trace of New Orleans rock ‘n’ roll. Gable’s distinctive guitar lines meshed closely with the lead vocals supplied by King Karl. Throughout the remainder of the 1950s the band continued to draw crowds at regional clubs, although Gable appears to have stepped away from live work after enlisting in the army around 1959.
