Biography
Grit and passion fused with Jawbreaker and Leatherface influences to shape the melodic yet aggressive post-hardcore sound of Gainesville's Gunmoll. The group, whose approach bore notable resemblance to Hot Water Music and most of the No Idea Records roster, featured vocalist/guitarist Mike Hale, bassist/vocalist Derron Nuhfer (who had previously played sax for ska-punkers Less Than Jake), and drummer Jon Marburger (formerly of local acts I Hate Myself and Burnman, among others). Gunmoll made its debut in July 2001 on the local indie No Idea with the full-length Anger Management in Four Chords or Less, which garnered a largely positive response. The band followed that effort with a split alongside Montreal's Fifth Hour Hero in September 2002, then entered the studio early the next year to lay down its next proper album. That record, Board of Rejection, surfaced in October, one month before the split with Annalise (from England) appeared. By the time the latter release reached stores, however, Gunmoll had already entered hiatus at the urging of Hale; the members reunited briefly in the fall of 2004 to play Gainesville's annual punk shindig, The Fest. Hale returned to the scene in late 2006, signing with Asian Man Records for the release of upcoming solo material.
