Gusto serves as the performing name for Ed Gusto, a British house DJ and producer who delivered a huge worldwide club hit during 1995 and 1996 via the track “Disco’s Revenge.” Born Ed Green and now living in New Jersey, he works mainly behind the decks rather than in the studio, even though his reputation rests almost entirely on that single recording. Drawing from a loop of Harvey Mason’s “Groovin’ You,” the cut first appeared in 1995 through Bumble Beats Records and later received reworkings from Tom Moulton, Deep Dish, and several additional hands. Inside twelve months the record had crossed borders, earning fresh releases through Manifesto—a Mercury Records imprint—in the United Kingdom, Do It Records—an affiliate of WEA Music—in France, Central Station in Australia, and Hi-Bias Records in Canada, while also surfacing on countless compilations and DJ mixes. Gusto followed with two further tracks, “Let’s All Chant” in 1996 and “Headbanging Music” in 1997, yet neither matched the reach of his debut. About ten years afterward, Freemasons, among Britain’s leading remix teams, updated the original as “Disco’s Revenge 2008.” Issued on the U.K. imprint All Around the World and championed by key tastemakers including Pete Tong, the new version again ruled dance floors. The renewed interest in the song simultaneously lifted Gusto’s own profile, giving his DJ career fresh visibility through widespread press coverage.
