H-Bom, a pop-rapper from the Philippines, made his debut in 1997 via the album Buhay. Even though his name suggested something threatening, the artist maintained a mild approach overall. His tracks, mostly featuring English lyrics, brought to mind U.S. pop-rap acts like Will Smith, Young MC, and Shaggy, but lacked any reggae elements. Following this, his second album Pwede Ba? came out in 1998, with D' Real Side arriving the next year in 1999. This release maintained the style of his prior work, as he delivered harmless verses and sometimes incorporated vocals. To reach the widest possible listeners, H-Bom, similar to other pop artists in the Philippines, steered clear of any intense elements in his songs.
