Biography
Hadda Be craft a British indie rock sound that balances melodic warmth with sharp edges, drawing from guitar textures that merge ringing jangle with abrasive crunch. Their songs fuse the gloss of indie pop with the tension of post-punk, creating an unpolished yet vital atmosphere that suits the candid, emotionally direct singing of Amber Rose Price as she recounts sudden shifts in everyday existence. The band first outlined this approach on a self-titled EP issued in 2019 while still operating as Foundlings, then delivered a concise yet forceful full-length statement with Another Life in 2021, an album shaped by the turbulent period of its making.
Formed in 2018 and split between South London and Brighton, the group began as Foundlings with Amber Rose Price handling lead vocals, Matthew Sykes on guitar, Bryan Ong on bass, and Oliver Trowler-Wareham playing drums alongside backing vocals. During their debut year the quartet put out two self-released singles, “Misery” and “Horizon,” which earned favorable notices and airplay from BBC Radio 6 and Radio X. Last Night from Glasgow took notice and signed the act, issuing the five-song self-titled EP in March 2019. Extensive touring followed, drawing strong audience responses, yet the following year brought multiple setbacks: Bryan Ong departed and was succeeded by Ben Richards, Brexit-related political strains complicated operations, and the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted both recording schedules and live plans. An additional legal threat emerged when an American group already using the Foundlings name contacted them, prompting a change to Hadda Be, a phrase drawn from an Allen Ginsberg poem. The newly renamed band tracked eleven tracks over five days at Brighton Road Recording Studios, and Last Night from Glasgow released the resulting album Another Life in April 2021.
