Biography
Having resided across numerous regions of the country while performing with an array of ensembles, the experienced vocalist and composer Hank Harris ultimately established his base in South Dakota’s Black Hills, where he focused on independently issued recordings in the contemporary singer/songwriter vein. A member of a military household, Harris passed extended periods in every section of the United States, including the sunlit expanses of Florida and Hawaii, the factory-dominated cities of Detroit and Washington, D.C., and the scenic landscapes of Colorado and California. Throughout these travels he sustained a broad enthusiasm for music, participating from the 1970s onward in groups that included Lonesome Prairie Playboys, Red Willow Band, R&B Supply, Sherman & the Waybacks, the Shades, Hank & Christy, D.D. & the Fayrohs, and others. He later took up residence in Sturgis within the Black Hills and devoted attention to his stylistically varied solo projects—World Beat Cowboy (1999), Here (2001), and Fantasy Land (2002)—which incorporate Western swing and country alongside the more expected contemporary singer/songwriter folk-rock elements.
