Arnaldo Brandão, who had supplied bass for A Bolha before appearing with Brylho, Blitz, and the ensembles of Raul Seixas, Jorge Mautner, Luiz Melodia, Gal Costa, and Caetano Veloso, launched Hanoi-Hanoi together with poet Tavinho Paes. Their self-titled debut LP appeared in 1986 and moved 30,000 units while featuring the widely known tracks “Blá-blá-blá... Eu Te Amo” and “Totalmente Demais”; the latter was later cut again by Caetano Veloso, whose own album took its title from the song, while the former was revisited by Lobão and additional artists. In 1987 the band shared a Plug-sponsored showcase at Rio’s Canecão with Nenhum de Nós and Hojerizah. The 1988 follow-up Fanzine included “Plic Plic” alongside “O Tempo Não Pára,” a Brandão/Cazuza composition. Jean-Paul Sartre’s existentialism supplied the conceptual foundation for the third album, O Ser E O Nada, issued by EMI. After the group’s 1991 appearance at Rock in Rio II, Coração Geiger surfaced the next year; the 1993 tour was captured for the live album Credus, which reached stores in 1995.
