Biography
During the 1990s the Hardkiss brothers—Scott, Gavin and Robbie—dominated San Francisco’s underground club circuit by blending acid, trance and breakbeat techno. As world-class DJs they also operated their own Hardkiss imprint, issuing their own tracks alongside those of numerous other acts such as Rabbit in the Moon and Scott’s God Within project. Scott and Gavin initially assembled the outfit in the early ’90s after witnessing Britain’s 1989 Summer of Love while studying abroad in Europe. Once back in the United States they promoted and staged large-scale raves along the East Coast before relocating to San Francisco to extend the same energy westward. Reuniting with longtime acquaintance Robbie, they adopted the Hardkiss name and began cutting tracks for the newly established label. Although the majority of its output remained vinyl-only, the compilation Delusions of Grandeur offers a representative overview of the Hardkiss aesthetic. Scott, Robbie and Gavin have each issued additional compilations that showcase their individual mixing abilities.
