Biography
A competent saxophonist and flutist, Alexander issued early- and mid-1970s albums on Flying Dutchman and Atlantic that fused original material with soul/jazz and R&B in convincing fashion. Greater dynamism marked his flute work as a soloist, an attribute on display throughout the 1971 Montreux Jazz Festival recording Are You Ready, which offered effective covers of “High Heel Sneakers” and “Watermelon Man.”
