Harold Danko has earned recognition as a modern jazz pianist whose inventive approach remains consistently engaging even if it has not always received widespread notice. After completing his studies at Youngstown State University, he performed with large ensembles under Chet Baker, Woody Herman, and Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, joined smaller groups led by Gerry Mulligan and Lee Konitz, and directed his own bands. During the 1990s he collaborated regularly with tenor saxophonist Rich Perry while serving on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music and the New School. His work as a leader has appeared on the Inner City, Dreamstreet, Sunnyside, and SteepleChase imprints.
