Biography
Hausu channels the ominous vibe of a Japanese horror movie that shares its name, layering shadowy elements beneath the band's icy, punk-driven sound. The outfit came together in Portland, Oregon, in 2010 during the members' college years. Vocalist/guitarist Ben Friars-Funkhouser, bassist Carl Hedman, second guitarist Alex Maguire, and drummer Sanit Leyba developed most of the material from 2011 through 2013 before traveling to YU Contemporary Art Center to capture the tracks, which were then shaped into Total, their first album issued by Hardly Art in 2013.
