Biography
In 2007 Black Spade, also known as Stoney Rock, launched the smooth neo-soul/R&B collective Hawthorne Headhunters. Having relocated from St. Louis to Los Angeles, the rapper and producer discovered shared interests with fellow producers Proh Mic and I, Ced, both St. Louis natives. The trio began tracking material, added singer Coultrain to the lineup, and took the group name from I, Ced’s Hawthorne, California base. Shortly after the debut EP was completed, however, Proh Mic and I, Ced left to focus on solo work. HVW8 Records issued the Hawthorne Headhunters EP in 2009, leaving Coultrain and Black Spade to continue as a rap-and-vocal duo; together they finished the 14-track album Myriad of Now, which Plug Research released in 2012.
