In 1966 bassist Eric Haydock, a Hollies member since 1962, was dismissed from the group. He promptly assembled Haydock's Rockhouse, a short-lived ensemble that leaned more heavily into R&B than the Hollies' recent direction. Vocals were supplied by Peter Ainsworth, trumpet by Ian Brooks, saxophone by Barry Worthington, organ and additional vocals by Tony Danforth, bass by Haydock himself, and drums by Hector Smith. The band secured a contract with EMI's Columbia imprint and debuted with a version of Sam Cooke's "Cupid," which made no commercial impression. A second single, "Lovin' You," appeared in 1967 and likewise vanished without notice. The outfit dissolved shortly afterward, though "Cupid" eventually turned up on a later compilation LP devoted to British R&B covers.
