Headroom

Kryssi Battalene, the experimental musician based in New Haven, Connecticut, had already built a reputation as a seasoned voyager through the distant edges of psychedelic guitar textures by the point she launched Headroom as a solo project in 2016. Linked to endeavors including Colorguard, Mountain Movers, and Medication, she shaped the enterprise around her singular guitar approach, threading noisy and richly detailed string explorations through spontaneously formed rock frameworks. The project began by issuing several modest sets digitally and on limited-run cassettes, each one pairing Battalene with different participants drawn from New Haven’s tightly connected experimental circles. Its initial full-length release took shape as Head in the Clouds, an expansive five-track set issued by the Trouble in Mind label in late 2017.
