Biography
John Pena, bassist in Beach Fossils, launched Heavenly Beat as his personal outlet. In late 2009 he started writing and performing under that name, shaping dreamy electro-pop around his own gentle vocals. His first release under the project, the Suday single on Captured Tracks, appeared in 2011 and was followed shortly by the Faithless single. Work on a full Heavenly Beat album began in 2012 and yielded Talent, issued that July. Shortly afterward Pena departed Beach Fossils to devote himself entirely to the project and started a second album. When he abandoned the tracks recorded during professional studio sessions, he returned to his own house to finish the material. Prominence, on which Pena performed every instrument except several keyboard overdubs supplied by Daniel Schlett and Christian Barsi, came out via Captured Tracks in October 2013.
