Biography
Heavy Hawaii comprises a pair of San Diego lo-fi eccentrics, Matt Bahamas on vocals, keys, and guitar with Jojo Keylargo handling guitar, whose work seeks to render the swirling internal voices imagined inside Brian Wilson’s head. Their recordings suggest Beach Boys sessions impaired by cough syrup and repurposed as a spooky yet hook-driven score for a low-budget horror movie. The duo first surfaced in 2009 when “Sleeping Bag” appeared on Bathetic Records’ Summer Bummer Get Laid Get Wasted Mixtape, then reached vinyl in 2010 with the Teen Angel EP on Art Fag Records and a split single alongside Girls Names. Momentum slowed thereafter, producing only the “Super Bowl Xxix” single in 2012 before the full-length Goosebumps emerged in early 2013, again via Art Fag.
