Henry Elsesser

Origin: U.S.A
Listen on Coda
Having originated in Milwaukee, this musician developed an early fascination with the trombone. An old acoustic guitar left in his married sister’s room, however, revealed an alternate path. He carried the battered instrument to a neighborhood music shop for basic tuning advice, and within three months he was appearing onstage at his high school. After earning his degree from the University of Wisconsin, he relocated to San Francisco, where he worked as a bartender between sets at area open-mic nights and performed alongside Delmarva and MK Ultra. In 1997 he moved to New York City, taking the stage at such storied rooms as the Knitting Factory and the Mercury Lounge. Two years later he traveled to Nashville to record his debut album, the self-titled Henry, issued in 2001. He has since appeared at festivals that include the Montreux Atlanta Music Festival and is regularly noted for a singer-songwriter sensibility and pop leanings in the vein of Elvis Costello and Dave Matthews.
