Biography
Herman Foster, a quintessential bop pianist whose fluid yet animated touch often wove clever quotations from popular standards into his improvisations, collaborated with Lou Donaldson for more than thirteen years from 1953 to 1966. Before that partnership he had a brief engagement with Eric Dixon, while throughout the 1950s he recorded alongside King Curtis and performed with both Bill English and Sheldon Powell. In the early 1960s Foster cut sessions with Al Casey as well as with his own trio. He rejoined Donaldson in 1981 and later performed with the saxophonist’s quartet during the late 1980s.
