Biography
Hernando Aviles, born in Mexico to parents of Puerto Rican heritage, joined Mexican vocalists Don Jose de Jesus Navarro Moreno and Don Alfredo Bajalil Gil to create the popular Mexican bolero ensemble Trio Los Panchos in the early 1940s. Their May 1944 appearance at New York’s Hispanic Theater earned the group worldwide notice, after which Aviles and Trio Los Panchos became frequent radio performers in Mexico and undertook tours of Japan and Europe. Even after leaving the ensemble in 1951, Aviles maintained the bolero approach the trio had established.
