Biography
In 2020 the Los Angeles-based duo Hey, King! unveiled their fervent fusion of soaring pop-rock and fragile folk on the Be Still EP. Grammy winner Ben Harper rejoined them in the studio for the self-titled debut album issued in 2021, an outing that incorporated additional blues-inflected textures.
Drawn from a line spoken in the 2009 screen adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, Hey, King! comprises Canadian songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Natalie London alongside American percussionist Taylor Plecity, both of whom share vocal duties. The pair placed their debut EP, Be Still, with Anti-/Epitaph; Ben Harper produced the set, which contained four original compositions plus a rendition of the Animals’ “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” that spotlighted Eric Burdon. Hey, King! later reunited with Harper for the full-length release Hey, King!, which reached Anti-/Epitaph in April 2021.
