Biography
Hiiragi Fukuda, an experimental rock artist based in Tokyo, has built a global following through a wide-ranging catalog that blends indie rock, pop, electronics, and abstract soundscapes. His initial notice among adventurous listeners came via membership in Doronco Gumo, where he contributed to the limited-edition CD Old Punks issued in 2008 and later pressed on LP in 2009. Fukuda began his solo path with several 7" singles and cassettes before Sloow Tapes issued his six-song cassette My Turntable Is Sloow in 2010; the release drew strong praise from critics across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe, which in turn led to a vinyl reissue. In 2011 he followed with the EP The Stable at Dawn, performing every instrument on his own. After adding guitar to a pair of EPs by Yuka Ijichi, Fukuda returned in 2014 with the album Seacide, generating beautiful yet forbidding textures via guitar, voice, theremin, and an outdated electronic keyboard. Sloow Tapes again put out a minuscule pressing, after which Trouble in Mind Records supplied a U.S. edition in 2015 that marked one of Fukuda’s earliest American releases.
