Hijas del Sol

Formed by Piruchi Apo Botupá together with her niece Paloma Loribó, the Afro-beat duet Hijas del Sol first rose to attention after joining an African traditional festival in 1992. Once the Equatorial Guinea natives had established themselves in Madrid, Spain, they began taking part in local cultural events and encountered Manu Chao, who soon became their mentor. Hijas del Sol issued their debut album Sibeba in 1996 on the independent label Nubenegra.
