Biography
Formed as a bluegrass-oriented ensemble, The Hillmen brought together Chris Hillman, Don Parmley, Vern Gosdin, and Rex Gosdin. Operating from Southern California during its brief run, the outfit ranked among the first acts to shape the region’s rising bluegrass and country activity. A sequence of recordings emerged from the group across 1963 and 1964; afterward Chris Hillman moved on to the Byrds, Don Parmley joined Bluegrass Cardinals, Vern Gosdin launched a career as a country crooner, and his brother Rex established himself as a country songwriter. Sugar Hill issued the definitive Hillmen retrospective in 1995.
