Biography
Hailing from Missouri, the pop/rock quintet Hold Close forged a meticulously produced emo-pop aesthetic that channels the intensity of Silverstein while eliminating any jagged textures.
The five members—vocalist Braxton Smiley, guitarists Jessee Everett and Charlie Edel, bassist Devon Edwards, and drummer Marshall Martin—first assembled in Springfield, Missouri, during 2016. Having known one another since high school and performed in separate local outfits, they drew initial inspiration from Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller Band, and Poison. At ABG Studios in Crown Point, Indiana, producer Seth Henderson captured their debut EP, I Was Never Meant to Stay, imparting an exceptionally refined, glossy finish. The band issued that EP independently in 2016 and followed it the next year with I'll Never Go Back. Their melodic and emotionally resonant approach quickly attracted listeners and caught the ear of Hopeless Records, which signed the group in 2018. The label then put out Hold Close’s first full-length album, Time, the subsequent January. Once more produced by Henderson and shaped profoundly by the passing of a close friend, the record explores themes of loss, grief, and hope while featuring the single “Breath.”
