Originating from Philadelphia, Charlene Holloway spends the bulk of her time inside recording studios. She has supplied backing vocals for an extensive roster of performers, and whenever studio work pauses she racks up road miles supporting a wide range of vocalists on tour. Her professional path began roughly when Philadelphia International Records first rose to prominence. Dexter Wansel placed her on his album Universal, after which she toured alongside Patti Labelle, Teddy Pendergrass, Stephanie Mills, Pieces of a Dream, George Michael, and Phyllis Hyman. At the outset she performed with her sister Paula and Annette Hardeman; the three sang in schools and churches before providing support for many of Philadelphia’s leading vocalists. More recent work includes a guest spot on the Expansion Records release Philly Nights, an appearance that led directly to her first solo album, Big, Bad & Beautiful, also issued by Expansion.
