Biography
Morgane Lhote, once a keyboardist in Stereolab, launched Hologram Teen as her solo outlet, an anagram of her own name. The project’s vibrant and whimsical tracks draw primary influence from horror film scores and Italo disco while also incorporating dub, instrumental hip-hop, and synth pop. Born in Paris, Lhote settled in London at twenty and performed for several years with the groundbreaking Stereolab before a short stint in the Projects and a folk-leaning collaboration called Garden that involved members of Simian Mobile Disco. After nearly ten years in New York City she relocated to Los Angeles, where she turned her attention fully to solo work. Deep Distance issued the first Hologram Teen single, “Post-Apocalypteacakes,” in 2015, followed the next year by “Marsangst” on Happy Robot Records. Polytechnic Youth released the project’s debut album, Between the Funk and the Fear, in 2017; the record featured contributions from Craig Borell and Sasha Fuentes, both ex-members of the Los Angeles electro-lounge-pop band Sukia.
