Holopaw

Hailing from Gainesville, Florida, the understated indie country-rock ensemble Holopaw centers on singer, songwriter and guitarist John Orth, who joined forces with Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock for the latter’s Ugly Casanova side project. Brock’s endorsement prompted Sub Pop to offer the group a deal, resulting in the release of their self-titled debut at the start of 2003. Two years afterward they issued Quit+/or Fight, a further assortment of delicate, personal material. Although membership shifted over time, the band reemerged in 2009 with Oh, Glory. Oh, Wilderness. and again in 2013 with the stately Academy Songs, Vol. 1, each project shaped by Orth’s steadily more intricate songcraft.
