Biography
The Australian indie dance trio Holy Balm unites Anna John, Emma Ramsay, and Jonathan Hochman. Early house music and post-punk inform their homemade, D.I.Y. method of making dance music, with real-time performance on keyboards and drum machines that favors intuitive feel over technical precision. The band originated in 2006 and started shaping its psychedelic dance style. A handful of limited cassette and CD-R issues preceded their 7" single on Hustle Muscle in 2011. Their debut full-length, It's You, arrived in 2012 via R.I.P. Society in Australia and Not Not Fun in America. An American tour in support of the album placed them onstage with NNF labelmates such as Maria Minerva and Xander Harris. After several years of touring and honing their songwriting, Holy Balm issued their second album, Activity, on Chapter Music in 2016.
