Biography
Entering Málaga’s local circuit in 1987 under the name Hondonero Blues, the Spanish rock quartet Hondonero first assembled around brothers José and Juan Mateo before drummer Jaime Cordón completed the lineup. Their initial demo, cut with producer Tony Carmona, included the tracks “Quiero Un Trago,” “Una Noche Mas,” and “R&B,” and surfaced on the 1990 cassette Legendary Tracks. After Jaime Cordón departed, Antonio Jiménez assumed the drum chair. The group shared a 1995 split EP with Pesadilla Electrónica that featured the songs “1993” and “El Largo Final.” Hondonero tracked its debut full-length, Salto Al Vacío, with Fernando Romero in 1996; the album appeared the following year. Felix González soon replaced Antonio Jiménez, after which the band contributed a cover of Siniestro Total’s “Mas Vale Ser Punky Que Maricon De Playa” to the compilation La Movida and issued the Sergio Casale–produced Blacksoul’s Club.
