Biography
Horacio Salgán, a gifted Latin American musician, began piano lessons in early childhood and later enrolled at a conservatory in Buenos Aires. His entry into professional performance came when he joined the radio station El Mundo. In 1957 he began collaborating with guitarist Ubaldo De Lío, and the pair recorded A Buenos Aires De Las Tres De La Mañana. Salgán assembled Quinteto Real in 1960 together with Enrique Mario Francini, Rafael Ferro, and bandoneonist Pedro Laurenz; the ensemble’s first release was a self-titled album. In 1969 he joined forces with pianist and composer Dante Amicarelli, producing the albums Salgán-Amicarelli Dos Virtuosos Del Piano in 1970 and El Bósque Mágico in 1971. Salgán became part of the stage production Tango Argentino in 1983, after which the show toured Argentina, Europe, and the U.S.
