Biography
Hailing from São Paulo, Brazil, the death metal extremists known as Horned God first assembled in 1998. Still operating under the name Sacrifice at that point, they released the EP Revenge of Pain in 1999. Even before staging any local shows, the founding members—Érico Pedrosa on vocals, Daniel on guitar, Dario on bass, and Bruno Corrêa on drums—had to adopt the Horned God identity after another act asserted prior rights to the original name. They soon secured a deal with the independent label Tumba Records, leading to the November 2001 release of their debut album Absit, which featured new bassist Angelo. Subsequent regional tours found them supporting Brazilian heroes Krisiun along with international acts such as Cannibal Corpse and Monstrosity, after which the band landed a worldwide agreement with France’s Listenable Records. Guitarists Fabiano Penna of local favorites Rebaelliun and Hudy Hussui joined for the sessions that produced 2003’s Chaos, Bringer of All Revelations. Marking a clear advance for the group, the record presented their corrosive black/death metal approach in a manner that drew favorable comparisons to Poland’s Behemoth and Sweden’s the Crown.
