Biography
Horse Mode, an indie rock quartet, came together in Billerica, Massachusetts during 2010. Vocalist and guitarist Jay Powers teamed up with drummer Ryan Sunderland to launch the group, which later added bassist and vocalist Joel Gray in 2011 followed by guitarist Dave Boz in 2013; their music blends rhythmic math rock elements with prog influences and a dash of '90s alternative spirit. Having known each other since high school, this Lowell-based lineup had previously experimented with various band setups before settling on Horse Mode. In 2012, they put out a six-song demo titled Remember the Dinosaurs. The tracks featured crunchy jams whose intricate structures echoed Battles and Minus the Bear while the sharp angles brought to mind Fugazi and Built to Spill. Ocelot Records put out the band's first proper full-length album, All You Ever Talk About Is Jazz, in 2015.
