Biography
Hot Lava emerged when a cluster of art school attendees launched the project in Richmond, Virginia, during 2006. Their indie pop material, infused with techno terminology, overlaid by coarse shoreline guitar textures, and treated with haunting echo layers, evoked the playful manner of outfits such as the Bicycles and the Blow. Following repeated personnel shifts throughout the group’s early phase, the act entered the studio in 2008 to capture its first album with vocalist Allison Apperson, drummer Jared Sosa, bassist Andrew Mowe, and keyboardist Matt Deans, and Lavalogy appeared on Bar/None the next year.
