House of Rhythm

Although frequently grouped alongside the mid-'90s third wave ska revival, the London-based quintet House of Rhythm draws far more heavily from traditional '60s-style Jamaican ska than most participants in that brief movement, who typically traced their sound back to the punk-inflected British ska boom of 1979. The lineup features lead singer Leon Kirkland, percussionist and singer Michael "Charlie" Charles, trumpeter Ralph Lamb, guitarist Nigel Price, bassist Jeff Lucas, and drummer Jeremy Holroyd. Their first release, the 1996 album In a Different Style, brought in an alto and tenor saxophonist plus two keyboard players to expand the core group.
