Biography
The formation of Houston Jones sprang from the alliance of Louisiana native Travis Jones and multi-instrumentalist Glenn Houston, a pair of committed grassroots musicians who quickly bonded upon meeting at the 2001 Strawberry Music Festival. Jones had already worked as a singer/songwriter, securing the starring role in the stage musical Lost Highway with his vivid Hank Williams, Sr. impersonation. Houston, a New Jersey guitarist drawn to the blues, had used that affinity to develop a following across San Francisco's Bay Area. Once united, the musicians fused their separate influences into a roots sound that shifted across styles, held together chiefly by the recurring thread of Americana in many songs. They laid down their self-titled debut for Summerhill Records in early 2002, and the album appeared that fall.
