Hummer

Boston alt-pop outfit Hummer brings together singer, songwriter and guitarist Stephen Mayone alongside guitarist Jonas Kahn, bassist Brian Karp, and drummer, singer, songwriter and producer Daniel Cantor. Mayone previously collaborated with the environmental education collective Earthtunes, while Cantor, an award-winning composer for film, theater and multimedia works, has served as producer for Aerosmith, Tracy Bonham and the Epitones. The two musicians later joined forces with Kahn, who doubles as a photographer within Boston’s music community, and Karp, whose résumé also includes stints with Violet Tide, Letters to Cleo and the Laurie Geltman Band, leading directly to the recording of their first album, Premium. Regular appearances at the Middle East, the Bitter End and additional neighborhood spots quickly built a loyal hometown audience and drew critical notice, culminating in a 1999 nomination for Debut Album Of The Year (Indie Label) at the Boston Music Awards.
