In collaboration with producer Bob Crewe, Hutch Davie crafted arrangements for several chart-topping rock tracks, notably Santo and Johnny's "Sleepwalk" from 1957 and the Angels' "My Boyfriend's Back" released in 1962. Recognized as an exceptional producer, he guided sessions featuring Shirley Ellis, Patty Duke, Leslie Gore, Ellie Greenwich, as well as Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. His arranging contributions to the Bob Crewe Generation's album Music To Watch Girls By, issued in 1967, earned him a Grammy nomination.

As an accomplished pianist, Davie co-authored and performed on the 1956 novelty success "Green Door" by Jim Scott. Alongside his ensemble the Honky Tonkers, he delivered renditions of jazz classics such as "Woodchopper's Ball", "Sweet Georgia Brown", and "Glow Worm"; additionally, he released the solo album Piano Memories.

Davie's lasting legacy stems from his roles in songwriting and arranging. He spent time employed as a songwriter at Trinity Music, located in New York's Brill Building, and contributed material to the Canadian-American, Congress, and Caprice imprints.
