In 1991 the quartet from Helsinki, Finland, adopted the name Hybrid Children and began performing with Jasse handling vocals and guitar, Kelly on drums and vocals, TV on guitar, and Jarno on bass. Drawing from 1970s rock and British punk acts such as Stiff Little Fingers, Angelic Upstarts, and Undertones, they issued several singles on Alternative Action Records before entering a 1992 deal with Gaga Goodies/Poko Rekords. Their first album, Bleed Baby Bleed, appeared the next year and prompted Jarno’s departure; he was succeeded by their acquaintance Pale. With the new lineup in place, the group embarked on European dates behind the record. Over the following years they sustained a cycle of writing, recording, and road work that produced Honeymoon in Babylon in 1994, Uncensored Teenage Hardcore in 1996, and Drugstore in 1998.
