Biography
Hydra Vein, a U.K. thrash outfit, took shape in Brighton when brothers Damon Maddison on bass and Nathan Maddison on drums—both formerly the rhythm section of the obscure band Deathwish—decided to start fresh. With Deathwish winding down in 1987, the siblings cut the demo The Reptilliad alongside vocalist Mike Keen, then issued their raw, Slayer-influenced debut album Rather Death Than False of Faith a year later, featuring guitarists Danny Ranger and Stephen Davis. By the time the 1989 EP After the Dream appeared, those two guitarists had already been replaced by Paul Bate and Jon Balfour, yet Hydra Vein was nearing the end and formally disbanded before the year closed.
