Biography
Formed in Florence, Italy, during 1966, I Califfi operated as a pounding beat band whose roster featured Paolo Tofani, later Area’s guitarist, and drummer Carlo Felice Marcovecchio, who would subsequently join Campo di Marte. Across their five-year run the group put out at least eleven singles in Italy together with a self-titled album before disbanding in 1971. The next year bassist Franco Boldrini assembled a revised line-up that included his brother Maurizio Boldrini on drums, Vincenzo Amadei on guitar and vocals, and Sandro Cinotti on keyboards. Departing from the dated approach once associated with I Califfi, the refreshed ensemble pursued moog-heavy progressive rock and issued the album Fiore di Metallo in 1973. Although the record made scant impact, several of its tracks were later reworked with fresh English lyrics by former I Califfi guitarist Tofani and included on his Electric Frankenstein album.
