Ian Eskelin blended the spiritual drive of CCM with the pulsing electronics of techno-pop throughout his recordings. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he first gained notice as a teenager by fronting the popular East Coast group Business & Industry, which opened for C&C Music Factory, Information Society and Book of Love. Once that band split up, Eskelin enrolled at Wheaton College in suburban Chicago, where his affinity for the synth-pop sound of Depeche Mode and Erasure led him to launch the kindred project Code of Ethics; simultaneously he contributed to Zero’s 1993 Ravenous album and used remaining hours to complete a master’s degree in communications. Following tours with Code of Ethics, he delivered his first solo album, Brand New Language, in 1993; in 1997 he reappeared as producer for All-Star United.
