Due to the nature of British media coverage, Idha’s union with Andy Bell, guitarist for the U.K. alternative rock band Ride, accounted for much of the notice she attracted on that side of the Atlantic. A Swedish singer-songwriter who performs in unaccented English, she possesses enough skill to succeed without external assistance, even though Bell supplies guitar on her 1994 debut. Melody Inn presented her as a vocalist and songwriter of modest promise whose sound carried an unusual throwback character closer to late-’60s/early-’70s folk-country-rock than to prevailing ’90s alternative styles. Troublemaker appeared in 1997.
