Illinois

Although the name Illinois might suggest otherwise, the group actually originated in Pennsylvania, specifically Bucks County. The lineup featured Chris Archibald handling vocals, guitar, banjo, and keys, alongside Andrew Lee on guitar and keys, Martin Hoeger on bass, and John-Paul Kuyper on drums. Together they developed an indie rock approach that merged the grit and punchiness of the White Stripes with the easygoing vibe of Arcade Fire. Their debut EP, What the Hell Do I Know?, appeared in spring 2007 on Ace Fu Records, with the single We Were Wrong arriving the following year.
