Since the late 2000s the good-natured Canadian MC Illvibe, also styled iLLvibe, has operated as a self-released musician, frequent joint-project partner, and steady live performer. Anthony Craparotta is the name given at birth; although Barrie, Ontario remains his hometown, he established his first audience while based in Toronto. Recognition arrived early with a 2010 nomination for Best Rap at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. After issuing a range of wide-ranging recordings, staging his own headline concerts, and supporting various major acts, Craparotta drew notice well beyond hip-hop circles through his appearance on CBC’s Canada’s Smartest Person, where he advanced to the season finale. Standout titles in the Illvibe catalog comprise Eclectic Avenue, issued in 2013 under the Robots Wearing Sunglasses name, Proof of Life from 2014, Firebreather in 2016, the 2017 collaboration We Are the Aliens with Myer Clarity, and The Neo-Blues, also released that year.
