Biography
Illya Kuryaki & the Valderramas emerged as a Latin hardcore/rap outfit when ex-Pechugo Emmanuel Horvilleur teamed with Dante Spinetta, son of Argentine rock icon Luis Alberto Spinetta. Their first recording, Fabrico Cuero, appeared in 1991 and earned the duo Revelation of the Year honors from the Buenos Aires daily Clarín. The follow-up Horno Para Calentar los Mares arrived in 1993, with Chaco issued two years afterward. In 1996 the group relocated to the United States to tape an MTV Unplugged session issued as Ninja Mental; the same program was later staged to acclaim at Buenos Aires’ Opera Theater. The Latin rappers captured Versus on tape in 1997, then released Leche in 1999 and the live set Aplaudan en el Luna in 2014.
