Biography
Oakland, California, witnessed the birth of Impaled during 1995, placing the group within the storied East Bay metal community already responsible for icons such as Possessed, Testament, and Forbidden. Lyrics drenched in explicit gore and horror placed the band squarely inside the gore-metal style. Raul Varela on drums and Sean McGrath covering guitar and vocals launched the project, later adding Leon del Muerte on guitar and vocals together with Ross Sewage on bass, both pulled from Exhumed’s shifting personnel once Jared Deaver, Ron Dorn, and Jeremy Frye had left. The revised roster soon toured in support of Deicide and Suffocation. A split 7-inch shared with grindcore masters Cephalic Carnage surfaced on Italy’s Headfucker Records in 1999, and a 2000 contract with Necropolis finally brought the debut full-length The Dead Shall Dead Remain into circulation.
