The Tuscan town of Pistola in Italy gave rise to Incoming Cerebral Overdrive, which came together in 2002. Their 2003 demo promptly earned top honors from Metal Hammer magazine, yet the group then fell silent for five years. Their debut full-length, Cerebral Heart, finally surfaced in 2008 on the domestic imprint Myphonic Records. Although the sessions took place in Salem, Massachusetts, under the guidance of Converge mastermind Kurt Ballou, the release failed to generate widespread notice amid the steady stream of his productions. The lineup of Samuele Storai on vocals, Maurizio Tuci on guitar, Stefano Tocci on guitar and synth, Marco Filippi on bass, and Filippo Baldi on drums moved swiftly to complete their follow-up, Controverso, issued the next year on Supernatural Cat Records. This sophomore outing attracted considerably stronger critical attention for its demanding fusion of eclectic and frequently mathematically intricate deathcore.
