Biography
InDisguise unites contrasting origins, with Paul Rhodes rooted in Kansas City, MO, and his collaborator Suzanne Jian tracing her background to the Pacific Island of Guam. The pair established the project in 1998 once prior ventures in the music business had collapsed for each of them. Rhodes had already contributed to sessions involving Amy Grant, Ray Charles, Corey Hart, and Wang Chung while also supporting Mersey Beat and the Manic Street Preachers on European dates. Jian, meanwhile, composed poetry by age 11 and songs by 13; at 19 she earned first place in multiple local contests that led to her entry into an initial group before serving as a government assistant. Turning toward the approaching millennium, the outfit pressed ahead as prospects steadily emerged. Their first onstage appearance occurred at the Blair Witch Webfest, after which the act appeared on Witchmix, the companion soundtrack to Book of Shadows. Early in 2000 they independently issued Exposed, whose tracks featured background vocals from Camille Rodriguez Araullo, daughter of famed Filipino star Celia Rodriguez. Immediately following that album they initiated work on Transitions, their next full-length effort, and in between released the single The Remixes.
