Originating from Greensboro, this brother-and-sister pair generated modest attention across the soul circuit throughout the 1960s. In 1962 the siblings signed to Symbol, the label run by Juggy Murray Jones. Their peak release, “Mockingbird,” arrived in 1963 and climbed to number two on the R&B side while reaching number seven on the pop charts. Much of the single’s impact came from the duo’s vocal exchanges and its overall arrangement, although Foxx herself proved able to deliver fiery performances independently. They followed with “Ask Me” and “Hurt by Love” before moving to Musicor. Their last notable entry, “(1-2-3-4-5-6-7) Count the Days,” surfaced on Dynamo in 1967 and peaked at number 17 on the R&B listings. Inez Foxx issued the well-received solo album At Memphis on Volt in 1969. Her subsequent singles for the label, however, attracted little notice during the early and mid-1970s. James Taylor and Carly Simon later recorded their own version of “Mockingbird.”
